SACRAMENTO, CA — California Environmental Voters Education Fund (EnviroVoters Ed Fund) launched a new educational ad campaign raising awareness about the greed by dirty energy companies that is costing Californians more and more each month. The seven-figure ad buy from EnviroVoters Ed Fund brings light to a months-long misinformation campaign from the oil industry. The video ads launched today highlight the daily economic challenges California residents face while oil companies continue to earn record profits.
Since the fall of 2024, Big Oil has invested heavily in California ads shifting blame away from themselves in an effort to roll back years worth of climate progress. These efforts only build on the 70+ years of disinformation efforts the industry has funded. After the recent announcement of Valero and Phillips 66 refineries closing, Big Oil weaponized the closures as they dodged responsibility for high gasoline prices.
“Oil companies have been lying to the public since the 1950s when they first learned about climate change and hid it with disinformation campaigns,” says Mike Young, Executive Director, EnviroVoters Ed Fund. “Now, as air pollution continues to pose serious health threats and costs keep rising from the climate impacts that their product has caused, the lies keep coming. The oil and gas industry is to blame for rising costs and worsening climate. Each and every day, corporate polluters’ greed is hurting California families.”
The ads, which can be seen here and here will run through the summer and direct viewers to the campaign’s landing page: www.FightTheGreed.org.
These ads complement a separate seven-figure ad campaign launched earlier in the month by the Campaign for a Safe and Healthy California which also brings attention to oil companies’ record profits and demands they be held accountable for the harm they’ve caused.
